Setting Up Custom Relationships, or Tags
Admins can now set up what we call Custom Relationships, to organize objectives into any category. They function like tags on your Objectives, and can be used to designate labels such as committees or departments to show how your strategic goals connect to other structures at your organization. They are tied to objectives in a similar way that Pillars are currently, and will appear in the Board Report in a similar way too.
Step by Step Guide
- Click your profile avatar, then go to Org Settings.
- Select Custom Relationships from the left-hand menu, then click “New Relationship.”

- Name the relationship — for example, “Committees” — and choose whether users can select one option or multiple options.
- Add your tags, for example Finance, Client Care, Building, then click Done to save. You can return anytime to edit or add additional relationships.
- Back on your dashboard, click to edit an objective, then click on the Relationships section of the Edit Objective screen.

- Click Add to attach an item from your list, then click Save.
- Print a Board Report to view the new relationships there too.

Pro Tip
When creating custom relationships, choose the “multiple selection” option for categories where an objective might belong to more than one group, and use “single selection” for mutually exclusive categories to keep your reporting clean and easy to interpret.
Closing Statement
With custom relationships set up, you now have a powerful way to organize and track your objectives with more clarity and precision. This step can make a big difference in how your team views progress, accountability, and reporting down the line. Please reach out if you need help getting this configured.
