Pro Tip
Before renaming your goal types, align with your leadership team on the terminology that best fits your organization's culture.
Keep in mind what each level of the goal tracking is meant to do:
- KPIs are broad overarching goals that will always be important measures of your organization's health, year after year.
- Objectives are supposed to be a big inspirational goal, set for each strategic period. Most organizations aim for 3-5 per year.
- Key results should be measurable. They are how anyone can see that your objectives are getting accomplished. When the key results aredone, the objective is complete.
- The initiative level is for tasks to complete that will get you to your Key Result. Some organizations refer to these as actics.
